Promptly after we got home from our Thanksgiving get-away in Park City we broke out our Christmas goodies. Kevin's family has a tradition of spending the day after Thanksgiving transforming thier house for Christmas and we have adopted that tradition and did just that.
Last year was our first Christmas together as married folk so naturally we bought all the basics to transform our apartment into Christmas: a faux mini tree, garland, ornaments, stockings, a wreath, faux poinsettia's, and of course our own little nativity set (actually given to us by Kevin's mom). I refrained from buying all the typical cutesy (is that a word) snowmen, Santa, snowflake, candy cane, decor because I'm crazy and like to decorate different each year. So what was once our totally current Christmas decor last year is totally dated and boring to me this year. Call me crazy but I just like to keep things interesting around here, especially because we have to look at it every year.
So this year I took to some interesting displays of ornaments in glass jars and bowls, a few silver decorative cones to serve as Christmas trees, and a lot of normal things that we already had to spice up our Christmas decor this year. So here's a glimpse of what I came up with:

Oh, and what's Christmas 2009 without a nutcrackher?!

And speaking of Christmas traditions, we are always looking for new ones. In fact, we just added another one to the list this past weekend. I have always loved the movie Elf but Kevin never really liked it that much. We watched it together the other day and he loved it. And just like that--a new Christmas tradition down in the books.

Now that our apartment has been transformed into Christmas and our tradition-creating minds are in full force we only have one more thing to check off before we can more fully embrace the spirit of Christmas: finals (Uf!).
Then we're home for the holidays! T-minus 9 days. I can't wait for the warmth!
