Lost and (Not) Found

There's nothing like losing something that turns your world upside down. Unfortunately, we are all too familiar with this feeling.

We returned home from St. George safe and sound on Monday evening, but when we got home we realized that our keys were missing.  When the Evansons dropped us off we were sure our keys were either inside our house or somewhere amongst our luggage.

After tearing our house apart, calling our hotel and every gas station along the I-15 S. to St. George, we pronounced the keys MIA.  Since our only car key was attached to that set of keys, we panicked.  Being a one-car-family is hard enough but when you don't have a key to drive that car, life gets hectic.  We were not only key-less, we were car-less stranded.

We didn't have very many options so we called the Toyota dealer to get an estimate on a replacement key the next morning. When they told us it would be $307 for a new key, we almost pooped our pants. We were desperate to find an alternative option.

Long story short: Kevin's mom had a random spare key that she overnighted to us.  We have since taken it to the local locksmith to get 7 replacement copies at $4.50 a pop.

Moral of the story: Always make sure that I know where the keys are... because there's no guarantee that Kevin will remember where he left them.

Random side note: I never knew that I could be so emotionally attached to a set of keys.  The keys to my childhood home and our first apartment were on there and I would do anything to have them back.

  1. This exact same thing happened to us the other day!! We are sharing one car right now as well and Lance has a hard time keeping track of the keys. Luckily we ended up finding them later but it was so stressful! $307?! I'm so glad we didn't have to pay that :) Good luck in DC!
